About Nani

My eclectic musical taste originated with my mother, who played contemporary and standards on the piano, and my grandmother, my namesake, who sang Hawaiian melodies.

Early on I played clarinet; after moving to the Big Island in 1974, I learned to play the guitar and bass. It didn’t take long and I was singing in lounges and hotels, as a soloist as well as an entertainer for weddings, celebrations, and fundraisers. In 1994, I was honored to be a nominee for a Hoku Hanohano award (Hawaiian music's equivalent to the Grammy award).

Taking a hiatus to resolve personal issues, I spent the time away learning more about music and myself, resulting in a new style, phrasing that reflects a more matured voice and temperament, one more familiar with the joys and sorrows of love.
